Doug has spent his life going to sea. It started at the age of 16 attending Naval boot camp with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, and closely followed up with joining the Coast Guard, all before the age of 20. Serving onboard the WHEC Duane out of Portland ME in the early 80's was followed by training at Yorktown BM “A” school. As a newly promoted 3rd class boatswain’s mate, Doug was transferred to district 7 and conducted search and rescue and law enforcement operations in the Miami area. This was at the height of the drug war and just after the Mariel boatlift, hectic to say the least. At the age of 26 Doug Moved into the private sector and immediately took command of a 106 ft. yacht that cruised globally.
Over the past 30 years Doug has run some very popular and high-profile mega yachts Doug was honored by winning five Antiqua Charter Yacht Show awards and four Boat International/US Classic Yacht awards. His latest awards include the 2017 Newport charter show for Best Charter Crew at the “Charter Yacht Hop Event” and the 2019 Newport charter show for Best Charter Crew. Doug is well known in yachting circles and has spent the last 13 years on his current command, the Motor Yacht Renaissance, starting as build captain.
